Rhinoplasty is the surgery by means of which we can modify the shape of the nose to give it an aesthetic appearance, improving your appearance in an amazing way.
Our goal is to perform a functional and aesthetic surgery, we always look for a natural appearance, according to the features of each patient.
The most frequent problems are: Decrease the width, raise the tip and eliminate the nasal hump. In addition to improving nasal aesthetics, in this procedure it is also possible to solve functional problems such as septum or deviated septum or hypertrophy of turbinates, among others.
+ Anesthesia: General
+ Internment: Ambulatory.
+ Care and protection: Special nasal plugs and splint in the nose during the first week, take care of the sun exposure.
+ Recovery: 1 to 2 weeks.
+ Results: Due to the normal process of inflammation, the first changes are seen between 1 and 3 months after surgery, the final result can take up to a year after the procedure.
+ Associated Surgeries: Neck Liposuction, Facial Lipoinjection, Bichectomy.
Where are these types of operations performed and how long have I been interned?
Rhinoplasty is performed in a hospital operating room. It is not advisable to perform the procedure in doctor’s offices. This procedure is an outpatient intervention. The estimated time of hospitalization is one hour prior to surgery and three hours post procedure. Upon discharge, the patient will receive a post-surgical instruction.
*It is required to have completed the surgical consent before performing the surgery.
How soon can you return to normal activities?
After the first 48 hours after surgery, the patient can perform activities without effort inside the home. Approximately 5 working days later, the patient can join their work or school activities that take place outside the home. To return to physical and sports activities it is recommended to wait between 3 weeks and one month after surgery. For exposure to the sun, it is recommended to wait until the possible bruises have completely disappeared (approximately one month).
Is it possible to have pain after rhinoplasty?
It depends a lot on the patient, but it is usually not painful. Patients usually manifest a sensation of nasal congestion. In case of pain you can take certain analgesics, previously consulted with the doctor.
What is the minimum and maximum age to perform a rhinoplasty?
The ideal thing for a cosmetic surgery is to wait until the patient has sufficient physical and psychological maturity, this is around the age of 16 (this rule is not absolute) since the development of each patient can vary. There may be a case of the need for rhinoplasty in minors by medical indication or associated health problems, bearing in mind that in both cases the consent of both parents is required.
There is no upper age limit for performing this type of surgery, except that there is a health problem that prevents general anesthesia.
If I do not live in Monterrey, how many days will I have to stay in the city?
It is always for the best to pre-schedule rhinoplasty, always make a prior assessment with the specialist personally. The postoperative period requires approximately 7 to 10 days in the city.
From what time can I use glasses?
After the first 10 days of the operation, lenses can be used to see because the splint is supported. When removing the splint, it is advisable not to wear lenses for approximately 4 to 6 weeks. If you use contact lenses, they can be used after the first 3 hours after surgery.
When do I start to see the results?
At the moment of removing the splint, the patient can see a change, we must take into account that there is a process of inflammation where the nose swells and this causes the result to be distorted. Two months after surgery, the result can be seen in 70%. The process of deflation continues until a year after surgery, producing minimal changes imperceptible to the patient.
What are the pre-surgical studies that must be performed?
Dr. Gabriel A. Mecott Rivera will indicate which studies are required, among which may be:
+ Functional otorhinolaryngological evaluation to rule out hidden rhinosinusal pathology (internal deviation of the septum, polyposis, chronic sinusitis, etc).
+ Laboratory study (blood tests indicated by the doctor).
+ Electrocardiogram with pre-surgical cardiological evaluation (Indicated post evaluation of the doctor).
+ Chest x-ray (not always necessary).
